From the prairie comes this graceful muse, adding a fineness of texture unique in native grasses east of the Rocky Mountains.  Prairie dropseed plants may live 100 years, tolerate grass fires, flower in sprays of cream-colored panicles held stiffly above the leaves, and won't flinch in heat, cold, wind, drought, clay or whatever other calamity your landscape may afford.  Finding the right spot for this plant is the key--sunny clay that you don't want to maintain is good--and then it will reward you with years of refined grace belying its grit.
