No plant evokes the magic of the northwoods understory as well as witch hazel. Spidery flowers of butter yellow show themselves in late fall. Leaves turn a broad range from russet amber to almost chartreuse. The smooth bark and rangy, arching habit lend more mystique to this sensational shrub. To find yourself in a mature stand of witch hazel, with the main branches arching out and over your head, is an experience like no other. Plant as foundation plants, specimens, in woodland gardens, and in the very back border. Medicinal and ornamental.
